In the center of the COL-SSD, a 32-bit SPARC processor controls an array of 128 GB raw NAND-flash memory through which (video) data is streamed in real time. The memory is key to the flawless operation of the recorder over its expected lifetime use in ISS. In order to maximize NAND-flash lifetime, the data needs to be spread evenly across all memory cells. Since raw NAND-flash relies on a flash media driver to take care of this, as well as performing bad-block management, it puts a load on the CPU. Since the data potentially needs to be stored on the SSD, a reliable file system is an additional requirement. Tesla troubles – averting automotive flash memory failure

Oops is an understatement here. Tesla’s got a problem with dead eMMC flash memory cards in Model S and Model X cars equipped with their MCUv1 (Media Control Unit). Ka-Ro announces an upcoming addition to its TXCOM family. The new TX6UL Computer-on-Module Development Kit is available now. Freescale’s new energyefficient processor features a single ARM Cortex-A7 core delivering speeds up to 528 MHz with low-power operation and industrial temperature ranges. Ka-Ro’s new module integrates 256MB DDR3 RAM and 128MB SLC NAND, alternatively the TX6UL can be equipped with 4GB eMMC. On their latest low-cost module Ka-Ro has extended the connectivity options to include a camera interface and 8 UARTs.
