About the Role
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will work independently on the commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on board naval vessels. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues related to 400V, 230V, and 24V installations, including the relevant control systems.
Your tasks also include testing and commissioning advanced systems such as battery and hybrid power setups, electric propulsion, power management, and automation technology. You’ll prepare clear service reports and take a solution-oriented approach, even under pressure.
Given the nature of naval projects, you may occasionally be required to travel abroad to commission or troubleshoot systems on board. You’re comfortable flying out on short notice to resolve technical issues and ensure the vessel is fully operational.
Key Responsibilitie
- Commission and test electrical systems on board naval vessels, including power distribution (400V, 230V, 24V) and control systems
- Troubleshoot and repair complex electrical and automation issues during the final stages of shipbuilding or operational support
- Set up and validate advanced systems such as hybrid and battery power, electric propulsion, and power management technologies
- Prepare accurate service reports and documentation, ensuring all work meets technical standards and project requirements
- Travel internationally as needed to perform on-site commissioning or urgent repairs, ensuring vessels are delivered fully operational and mission-ready
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- At least 2 years of proven experience as a Commissioning Engineer, preferably within shipbuilding or the maritime industry
- Solid knowledge of electrical installations (400V, 230V, 24V) and associated control systems
- Experience with testing and commissioning systems such as battery storage, hybrid propulsion, electric drive systems, power management, and automation
- Familiarity with relevant standards, safety regulations, quality controls, and inspection requirements
- In possession of VCA-VOL and NEN 3140 certifications, or willing to obtain them in the short term
- Permanent EU citizenship is required due to the military nature of the projects (incl. no dual citizenship outside EU)
