Vacancy

As a R&D System Architect at IMS, you are responsible for the creation process of system architectures for various projects. This is a multidisciplinary process involving several colleagues from the R&D team (mainly Engineers). It is up to you to keep the overview and coordinate all technical steps, and to interpret the playing field between system properties, product costs and product quality.

You ensure that the requirements of the client are correctly translated into a technically consistent architecture. You collect and interpret data from the client and convert it into concepts. On the one hand, you work in an abstract and strategic manner with the end result in mind. On the other hand, you are closely involved in the detailed elaboration of all deliverables for the R&D team members. Therefore, the technical completion of a project becomes your responsibility. You take all technical and commercial decisions related to the system, for which it is essential to be social. You are able to lead and coach team members, but also to think from the client’s point of view, to focus on requirements and to clearly explain deliverables.

On the one hand, you work on a project basis; on the other hand, you ensure that the general architecture quality within IMS improves. You are an expert when it comes to system architectures and therefore able to share your knowledge and experience within the organisation. The communicative aspect is also important here: you can get colleagues’ support and coach them in the R&D field.

You will be working on several projects with varying lead times; other colleagues from the R&D team are involved in each project. This team consists of different Engineers, for example in the field of Mechanics, System & Control and Applied Mathematics.

Acquisition in response to this vacancy is not appreciated. We do not derive rights or obligations from profiles and cv’s that are sent unsolicited. Therefore, we regard them as not being sent.

Firsthand experience

You are discussing the requirements with a client, but they are not compatible and impossible to combine. How do you solve this?

Requirements can be very specific and in some cases contradict each other, making the technical realization of a certain architecture impossible. An example is the design of a car for which the client has two requirements: 1) the car must be able to drive 200 kilometres per hour forward and immediately afterwards 2) it must be able to drive 200 kilometres per hour backwards. These two quantities contradict each other and cannot be realized in one technical system.

Moreover, the budget for this is capped, making the combination of these requirements too expensive and inefficient to realize. You can clearly explain this to the client, after which you discuss and advise on alternative requirements.

Growth

The growth path within IMS is not fixed. You will be given the opportunity and room for personal and professional growth, for example by following training courses. IMS makes a budget and set time available for this. In addition, initiative and entrepreneurship are highly valued within IMS.
