Combining multiple Contact Image Sensors for wide line scanning

November 18, 2023

Inspection using line-scan sensors is somewhat a niche market within machine vision. Line-scan sensors are used when a very high-resolution image is required to inspect the surface of large, moving, flat objects such as paper, laminates, plastic films, textile, foils, glass, steel or even PCBs. Building inspection systems that use line-scan sensors require unique expertise because, unlike area-scan acquisition, they require a tight coupling of the sensor’s acquisition rate (i.e., the line rate) and the movement of the object. Embedded Vision with TCP Offload: The powerful Alvium G5X series from Allied Vision for flexible image processing and system integration

October 13, 2023

The Alvium G5X series from Allied Vision is a variant of the Alvium G5 area scan camera. It streams the well-known GigE Vision Stream Protocol (GVSP) over the TCP protocol, which improves the reliability and efficiency of image transmission. Unlike the commonly used UDP protocol, the TCP protocol guarantees full-frame delivery and significantly reduces the processing effort for data packets. All the popular features of the Alvium G5 are also implemented in the G5X series, making it the perfect choice, especially for multi-camera and embedded applications. Read more

Why are vision systems so interesting for sports applications?

March 18, 2023

When athletes compete against each other, vision systems are often involved to check referee decisions, create statistics, or make training more effective. Because with high-resolution images, details can be recognised that are hardly visible to the human eye: Whether it is the smallest changes in body posture, the exact trajectory of a ball or minimal distances on the goal line – computer vision makes sport fairer and more exciting.
