In cleanroom design, innovation often comes from combining proven ideas with new ways of working. Value engineering (VE) is one of those ideas. Born in the 1940s at General Electric, it was a response to material shortages during World War II. Engineers had to find alternatives that were cheaper but still reliable. Out of necessity, a structured method was created to balance cost and function. Today, this method is making a comeback. In essence, value engineering asks a simple question: How can we deliver the functions that matter most, at the lowest cost, without compromising performance?
