Om PMI toe te passen, moeten werkstukspecificaties volledig en correct in het 3D CAD-model zijn opgenomen. Dit vraagt om nauwkeurige bematingen en toleranties, die essentieel zijn voor een succesvol vervolgproces. Maar daar gaat het vaak mis, merkt Hans van Kimmenade, docent bij Mikrocentrum. Een gebrekkige geometrische specificatie kan namelijk leiden tot problemen in de verdere productie.
