SCHUNK GmbH & Co. KG of Lauffen/Neckar is a German family-owned company and global player in one. The company was founded in 1945 by Friedrich Schunk as a mechanical workshop and has developed under the leadership of Heinz-Dieter Schunk to a competence and world market leader for gripping systems and clamping technology. Today, the company is run by third generation siblings Henrik A. Schunk and Kristina I. Schunk.
3,500 employees in 9 plants and 34 directly owned subsidiaries and distribution partners in more than 50 countries throughout the world ensure an intensive market presence. SCHUNK Intec B.V., located in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, is one of the subsidiaries of the German family business and is the sales and service point for the Dutch market.
With 11,000 standard components SCHUNK offers the world’s largest assortment of gripping systems and clamping technology from one source, and with 2,550 SCHUNK grippers the largest product range of standard gripping components on the market. The complete program of gripping systems comprises more than 4,000 components. SCHUNK has pushed digitalization of its portfolio forward for years now, ensuring that users can plan their processes efficiently, transparently and economically. They also benefit from the comprehensive SCHUNK application knowledge which is consistently growing, focusing on innovative fields of application where automation can be applied. Main customers include manufacturing companies with assembly, handling and metal-cutting processes. The SCHUNK’s customer base includes the Who’s Who of mechanical engineering, robotics, automation and assembly handling, and all the renowned automotive brands and their suppliers.

Pioneering spirit in the genes
The history of the SCHUNK company began in a garage. But at the very beginning there was the pioneering spirit. With a great deal of courage, Friedrich Schunk founded a workshop after the end of the Second World War in 1945 – virtually from nothing. His talent for tinkering made it possible to handle large orders for which there were no tools yet: he made them himself with his team! When his son Heinz-Dieter Schunk became part of the management in 1962, the company began to rapidly develop. His entrepreneurial spirit and visionary foresight opened the way to the global market. From the production of small series and subcontracted orders, the company became a tool manufacturer for the global metalworking industry. Today, SCHUNK is the world market leader for gripping systems and clamping technology and focuses on the development of intelligent components to equip networked and flexible production systems. In doing so, we always keep our customers’ goal in mind and support them with our extensive application knowledge.
