Printed circuit boards consist of materials that absorb moisture; some materials absorb more than other. At the moment the printed circuit board is soldered the entrapped moisture vaporize very quickly creating an internal pressure in the PCB. This internal pressure during soldering can result in delamination of the layers. Lead free soldering did make PCBs even more sensitive due the higher solder process temperatures needed for the lead-free soldering process. Read more
Our timetable for the transition of the PCBA assembly to our new building Breedijk 23 was negatively affected by Covid 19. Nevertheless, meanwhile we have moved all our assembly activities into our new building Breedijk 23.
The new assembly rooms can only be accessed by an airlock creating a clean environment for assembly of the PCBAs. We have a separate room for the manual assembly operations and quality inspections and a room where we have our pick and place machines, vapor phase and selective soldering machine.
Furthermore, a cleanroom, a component storage room, and a logistics department are present. All rooms do have climate control.
The new lay-out is much more spacious, it not only looks good, but it also creates a much better overview. In combination with further automatization of our processes we can improve further our product quality and delivery reliability. Also, sufficient space is available for further extensions of our operations and activities.
The space which came available in our existing production hall at the Breedijk 25 is used to relocate and expand our activities for the laser cutting, mechanical treatments CNC drilling and/or routing of PCBs as well as PCBA repair and PCB electrical testing.
In order to be able to guarantee the best possible quality, chemical cleaning of the printed circuit boards is an option. Cleaning minimizes the CAF (Conductive Anodic Filament) and is needed when the pcb(a) is treated with conformal coating. Chemical cleaning takes place before wire bonding and ensures a reliable operation of the boards. The pcb´s last production step is the optical inspection. On request, the boards can also be AOI (SAKI) inspected before the final optical inspection. Read more
Cost pressure can result in a breakthrough, but the reality is that often the “good enough” approach is taken. The Dutch call it a “sixs culture”, a culture of “Cs” would likely be the Anglo-Saxon expression. Unfortunately, this approach will not result in excellent products and technically well thought processes or great innovation. In electronics conductivity is important but isolation also. Electrical isolation but also thermal isolation is as important. S&Q has the machinery, among others UV laser and CNC drilling, to accurately manufacture plastics parts with high accuracy and short delivery times. Many manufactured parts are based on FR-4 glass epoxy, a popular and versatile high-pressure thermoset plastic laminate grade with good strength to weight ratios. With near zero water absorption, FR-4 is most commonly used as an electrical insulator possessing considerable mechanical strength. FR-4 materials are known to retain its high mechanical values and electrical insulating qualities in both dry and humid conditions. Product development means hard work. It is a tough job to develop a creative idea in a working product that fulfils all the wishes of the user. Those wishes include flawless functionality, long lifetime and many more. As a product developer you are challenged to realize this. In case hardware electronics is part of the product, circuitry development is needed, and parts need to be selected. The circuitry needs to be transformed in a PCB design that not only assures the functionality of the circuitry but also assures the manufacturability of the PCB and the assembly of the PCB. Changes in organization and a healthy growth in recent years makes that S & Q had to extend its operations. Rather than moving the company we were able to obtain building Breedijk 23, just next to current operations. This makes that we can gradually move to the new production environment and avoid any disruption of the production and or impact on the deliveries. As of July 1, 2019, the new offices are in use and the 700m2 production area is changed into a multifunctional assembly area including all ESD precautions, controlled climate and airflow step by step, making sure S & Q Europe is future proof.
