Improving remote driving for safer autonomous vehicles

Automated vehicles perform well in many situations, but what happens when they encounter unexpected environments or severe weather conditions? Researchers at TU Delft Mechanical Engineering are investigating teleoperation as a human fallback solution for automated driving. Georgios Papaioannou and his team have developed an advanced remote driving system to study how operators can safely and effectively take control when needed. Their research focuses on creating a realistic driving experience for remote operators by improving the transmission of essential cues, including visual and haptic feedback, helping to make remote vehicle control safer and more intuitive.
