Improving illumination and optical design is essential for the future of chip manufacturing, advanced imaging, and space-based sensing. To accelerate this progress, a stronger link between optical physics, mathematics, and AI is needed.
That is why we’re delighted that NWO (Dutch Research Council) has selected the AI4Optics project for funding under the Perspectief programme. In this initiative, leading experts in computer science, mathematics, and physics collaborate to develop fast AI-based simulation techniques for designing illumination systems and producing sharper, more reliable images. The results will contribute to smaller and more energy-efficient chips, reduced light pollution, and improved earth observation from space. Read more
